Robotic worm

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) researchers have developed a robotic worm that mimics the locomotion of earthworms. Forward movement results from the contraction of one body segment while the others relax. The team of scientists hope the mesh and wire roboworm, once scaled down, will have practical uses in medical fields such as endoscopy.

Assignment

When Popular Science decided to launch a new monthly feature, called “Sketches,” highlighting exciting new scientific research projects, they called on me to illustrate the series. Working entirely digitally in Illustrator and Photoshop, I created a unique set of monthly illustrations that resemble hand-drawn development sketches.
